Verification & How We Vet Businesses

Every business listed on Counter Handbook has been researched and checked against real standards. This page explains what we look for, the sources we use, and the framework we apply consistently to every restaurant in our directory. When you see a business here, it means we have done the work to verify that it meets the bar we set for our community.

Our verification process is transparent because your trust depends on knowing what we actually checked. We do not accept payments to look the other way. We do not have secret rating systems. What you see is what we found, and the evidence is available to anyone who wants to look.

Every restaurant we list is a real business in North Andover, operating under the same local regulations and community standards as every other establishment here.

The questions we ask about every kitchen

When we research a restaurant, certain questions come up repeatedly. We can answer some of them ourselves: is the business at the address it gives, and does its Google listing match its own website? Is there a pattern of community complaints, or do people consistently report good experiences? Are they part of the local business conversation, or are they isolated? Questions about staff certification and inspections are best put to the restaurant and the Health Department directly.

The restaurants we list are not perfect. No restaurant is. But they are serious about the job. That seriousness shows up in their hiring, their training, their responsiveness when something goes wrong, and their willingness to be accountable to the community. We look for evidence that a restaurant has invested in its people and that investment carries through to the customer experience.

How to use this directory

Counter Handbook is designed to answer one question: if I want to eat here, should I trust this place? The listings are organized by business type so you can find what you are looking for—a casual spot for lunch, a destination for a special dinner, a reliable neighborhood grill. Each listing carries the details you actually need to make a choice: location, what kind of food they serve, what people who have eaten there report.

You can browse by category or search by name. If you find a restaurant here, it is because we believe it is worth your time. That does not mean it is the only good place to eat in North Andover—it means we have checked it and it passed our standard. Read what other diners report. Look at whether it fits what you are looking for. Then go try it.

The verification process you read on this page is the same process we applied to every business in our directory. When you see a restaurant listed, these are the checks we ran. We keep this information visible because transparency builds trust. You should know exactly what we looked for and how we made our choice.

What we check

  • The business's address, checked against its own Google listing
  • Its Google listing, checked against its own website
  • What we leave to you: permit and inspection records at the North Andover Health Department, and whether staff hold ServSafe certification, which you can ask the restaurant
